Amy Hanaiali'i's pedigree doesn't come much better: her late grandmother Jennie Napua Woodd was a very popular native Hawaiian singer in the 1930s, and Hanaiali'i carries on her legacy with style. Her Grammy-nominated 2006 release continues in the vein of her previous solo albums and collaborations with Willie K.: traditional Hawaiian ballads, sung in a gorgeous and pliant voice that swoops into her upper register with the grace of an island bird taking flight. Hanaiali'i also covers some newer material, arranged in the laid-back, ukulele-strummed style of the trad songs.
