Lilting, evocative, and strangely compelling, this 2005 release is one of the Mendoza Line's strongest offerings. The stylistic backdrop of the album is based in folk, country, and roots rock, but the Mendoza Line inject it with upstart attitude, a sharp sense of songcraft, and lyrics that range from poignant confessionalism to political allegory. Timothy Bracy's Dylan-esque vocals offer a perfect counterpoint to Shannon Mardle's wispy singing, and the pair are particularly striking on the duets ("Our Love Is Like a Wire" is a highlight). By balancing the accessibility of familiar sounds with sophisticated writing and strong performances, the Mendoza Line has made quite a statement with FULL OF LIGHT AND FULL OF FIRE.
