This Japanese import reissue of Finnish death metal band Sentenced's 1998 album FROZEN features one brutal hidden bonus track.
The evolution of Finnish gothic metal standard bearers Sentenced continued on their fifth full-length (and second with vocalist Ville Laihiala), FROZEN. A thing of sullen, symphonic beauty, FROZEN slathers thick, keyboard-enhanced atmospherics onto ripping metal riffs. Not as misanthropic as Scandinavian black metal, but certainly darker than your average Scorpions release, FROZEN focuses on emotional intensity and fatalistic musing instead of cartoonish evil posturing. Songs such as "The Suicider", "Dead Leaves", and "Grave Sweet Grave" trade in the kind of epic, sweeping drama that European metal bands have always done so effortlessly, but rarely come off as overwrought or corny.
