Title Note

An intimate, moving autobiography set to music, FRIEND FOR LIFE relates the life and times of former El Chicano singer, amateur boxer, and all-around survivor, Ersi Arvizu. Her solo debut, FRIEND FOR LIFE, came to be after Ry Cooder cast Arvizu as the authentic East L.A. chanteuse on his CHAVEZ RAVINE album. Finding her stride as a vocalist again during those sessions, Arvizu tapped Cooder to produce FRIEND FOR LIFE and surrounded herself with family (her sisters contribute backing vocals on "Angel de Mil Voces" and "El Arbol") and friends (such as El Chicano co-founder Mickey Lespron) to help tell her story in song. In a compelling milieu of Latin, R & B, and jazz grooves, Arvizu bobs and weaves her way through sweeping torchsongs ("Mi India"), funk rave-ups ("Windows of Dreams"), and adult contemporary pop ("Friend for Life") with the lone consistency being her voice: real, weathered, and as devastating as a right hook.
