Five years after Catherine Wheel's last album, frontman Rob Dickinson (cousin of Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson) released his first solo outing. While there are guitar-driven traces of the British singer/songwriter's shoegazing former group, 2005's FRESH WINE FOR THE HORSES travels through a variety of poppier settings, ranging from Beatlesque anthems to thoughtful mid-tempo rock to spare dirges. Dynamic and assured, FRESH WINE reveals that Dickinson may achieve greater success as a solo artist than he did in his sorely underrated band.
