The Freaks are a group who revolve around Sam's older. army-jacket-clad sister, Lindsay, a talented mathematician undergoing various crises of confidence involving life, college, and her on-again, off-again stoner boyfriend. It all adds up to a potent mixture that is moving, funny, and grounded in a reality which accurately captures the often painful experience of being a teenager. I never got the appeal of this show, but when Apatow and crew became so popular
I picked it up here and was pretty blown away by it. Considering it takes place
in highschool in the early 80s and spoke directly to me (graduated 83) I felt it
was timeless. I especially liked the episodes that were linked to a musical
artist--The Who, Cream, The Grateful Dead.
