Recorded at Rainbow Studio, Oslo, Norway in January 1986. Includes liner notes by Steve Lake.

Like a fine desert bouquet, this quartet compliment each other in the most sympathetic and simple of manners. Pianist Paul Bley is perfectly matched with saxophone and clarinetist John Surman, guitarist Bill Frisell, and drummer Paul Motian. Motian recorded with Bley twenty years earlier on his great WITH GARY PEACOCK album, and for the past five years Frisell had been a part of Bley's regular combo. All four musicians brought some of their own material to the sessions. They also play a couple Carla Bley numbers and one by Annette Peacock (Paul Bley's first and second wives, respectively). With ECM's usual pristine clarity, the bass-less quartet dance around one another with long drifting notes that grow more beautiful the longer they linger. Frisell's tones blend beautifully with both Surman's reeds and Bley's piano. This is a rich and rare session.
