Arturo Sandoval first gained prominence with the Cuban jazz band Irakere. He is a powerful trumpeter with a fiery tone, extraordinary range, and a keen lyric feel. FLIGHT TO FREEDOM finds him exploring his Afro-Cuban roots, in settings that range from traditionally polyrhythmic to contemporary pop jazz. His collaborations with Chick Corea, Dave Weckl and Anthony Jackson will be of particular interest to fans of modern jazz fusion.
