Rolling Stone (p.70) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Beckett vividly renders what it's like to be a kid facing real-world issues, dealing with adult relationships and leaving home."
Rolling Stone (p.96) - Ranked #46 in Rolling Stone's 50 Best Albums Of 2008 -- "[A] soaring pop-punk ode to senior year..."

Blender (Magazine) (p.82) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Beckett sounds like the most popular kid in his class, wedding memories of high school triumphs with glistening, world-beating guitar-pop choruses."

Title Note

The Academy Is...: William Beckett (vocals); Michael Guy Chislett (guitar, keyboards); Mike Carden (guitar); Adam T. Siska (bass guitar); The Butcher (drums, background vocals).

Personnel: Andrew McMahon (piano); Blake Healy (keyboards).

Recording information: Avatar Studio NYC.

Playfully nodding to the classic 1982 teen comedy FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH, this 2008 outing by the Academy Is... liberates the group from its emo trappings, and reinforces its status as an energetic young pop punk act. Frontman William Beckett, who continues to grow as a charismatic singer, wisely tones down the angst in favor of a refreshingly carefree approach, as best revealed by the freewheeling "About a Girl" (not to be confused with the Nirvana song of the same name) and the soaring "Summer Hair = Forever Young." More immediately engaging and accessible than just about any other Fueled By Ramen release, FAST TIMES confidently reveals the Academy's intentions to compete in the pop/rock big leagues.
