King's X Artist Snapshot:

Power trio King's X combine Beatlesque melodies with fierce hard rock and progressive leanings. Formed in the mid-1980s, the band emerged--along with Living Colour--as one of the few metal bands with an African-American frontman. The group's initial videos garnered MTV airplay, leading to increased exposure and lengthy tours. Since the early '90s, King's X has maintained a slightly lower profile, but they still have a very devoted following, eager for the next release to feature the band's genre-hopping sound.

Review

Rolling Stone (1/10/91) - 3.5 Stars - Very Good - "..Driven by conviction and fired by their music, the members of King's X wield the moldy art-rock sword and...hone it to a hard straight edge.."
(11-12/90) - "...very different from anything they or anyone else has ever recorded...there are some great moments here, and the lesser songs still devour anything even remotely similar that's currently on the market. Best band on the planet.."

Title Note

King's X: Ty Tabor (vocals, guitar); Doug Pinnick (vocals, bass); Jerry Gaskill (drums, background vocals).

On their third release, 1990's FAITH HOPE LOVE, King's X stretches out. Only five of the album's 13 tracks are below the four-minute mark, as the trio indulged in their already rich sonic approach. The result wasn't quite as focused as its predecessor, GRETCHEN GOES TO NEBRASKA, but FAITH HOPE LOVE remains one of the trio's finest and most ambitious releases. The album spawned the melodic rocker "It's Love," which became the closest King's X ever came to a crossover MTV/radio hit, but FAITH HOPE LOVE is an incredibly consistent album. Tracks such as "We Are Finding Who We Are," the wicked "Moanjam" (which had been a live showstopper for years before its inclusion here), "I Can't Help It," "Talk To You," and "We Were Born to be Loved" capture King's X at the height of their prog-rock apex.
