Title Note

In many ways the working template for the great girl groups of the mid-'60s Motown era, the Shirelles combined pop, R&B, and doo wop with top of the line Brill Building songwriting, producing several classics for Florence Greenberg's Scepter Records like 1959's "Dedicated to the One I Love," 1960s "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," 1961's "Mama Said," and 1962's "Soldier Boy," all of which are included on this 12-song set of Scepter releases. Not included here, unfortunately, is the Shirelles' first hit, 1958's "I Met Him on a Sunday," which was licensed and released on Decca Records, and its omission is the only thing keeping this set from being the perfect introduction to this fine singing group. ~ Steve Leggett
