Q (12/03, p.123) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...With a sound straight out of 1974, this represents a miraculous return to form..."

Title Note

Personnel: Alice Cooper (vocals); Eric Dover, Ryan Roxie (guitar, background vocals); Wayne Kramer (guitar); Scott Gilman (clarinet, saxophone); Teddy Andreadis (accordion, keyboards, percussion); Chuck Garric (bass, background vocals); Eric Singer (drums, background vocals); Calico Cooper (Theremin).

Recorded at Mates Studios, North Hollywwood, California.

The resurgence of garage rock inspired veteran shock-rocker Alice Cooper to embark on a long-overdue return to the meat-and-potatoes sound he helped pioneer in the 1970s. With the help of producer Mudrock (Powerman 5000, Godsmack) and a crack band, Cooper succeeds beyond expectations with THE EYES OF ALICE COOPER.

Stripped of the '80s metal armor that went on to burden much of his work in the '90s, Alice has found ideal collaborators in guitarists Ryan Roxie and Eric Dover (the latter known for the '60s and '70s rock sound of his work with Imperial Drag and Jellyfish). Lyrically, Cooper has his tongue planted firmly in cheek. From tales of trailer trash ("What Do You Want From Me?"), morbid sarcasm ("Man of the Year") to the requisite macabre ("This House Is Haunted"), Alice has lost none of his edge. In fact, on "Detroit City," Cooper pays tribute to the musical legacy of his beloved hometown, featuring a guest spot by MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer. THE EYES OF ALICE COOPER captures its twisted creator inspired and poised to shock the masses with his time-honed talent.
