Hailing from Portland, the Hunches bring about as blistering a blast of Detroit-worthy punk rock energy as one could hope for. All feedback-driven piss-and-vinegar (with surprising doses of tempered sweetness, like the moving "Not Invited"), EXIT DREAMS is an inspiring crash-and-bash affair, highlighted by adrenaline-junkie tracks like "Ate My Teeth" and "Deaf Ambitions." But thanks to their canny absorption of classic pop and garage melodies, the Hunches are less another assemblage of amateur noisemakers than what the Rolling Stones might have sounded like circa 1966 had they been exposed to the Stooges.
