Title Note

The Youngbloods: Jesse Colin Young, Jerry Corbit, Banana, Joe Bauer.

Contains 25 tracks.

EUPHORIA draws on material recorded for Mercury and RCA, offering a thorough survey of the first phase of the Youngbloods' career. Taking their name from an earlier solo album by singer Jesse Colin Young, the quartet laid down five tracks that were shelved until 1970. Four of those songs open this collection, followed by "Grizzly Bear," a minor 1966 hit written by guitarist Jerry Corbitt.

"Grizzly Bear" generated some useful airplay and reappeared on the group's first album, THE YOUNGBLOODS. This early material was a mixture of jangly folk rock, Lovin' Spoonful-style good-time music, and Young's more introspective material. The record was also home to a version of "Get Together," a Dino Valenti composition first heard on Jefferson Airplane's debut album. Initially only a minor hit, it subsequently went Top 10 in 1969. The group's own songwriting moved up a gear with 1967's EARTH MUSIC, represented here by seven songs, some of which have a distinct country-rock flavor. Arguably the pinnacle of their career, 1969's ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN was essentially a vehicle for Young's songs. His haunting, droning "Darkness, Darkness" and the lengthy, jazzy "Ride the Wind" are among the seven songs chosen for this fine collection.
