Italian vocalist Roberta Gambarini turns her attention to American standards on 2006'S EASY TO LOVE. Gambarini's voice is versatile and technically accomplished, but she balances perfectly between cool restraint and swinging sensuality. This balance serves her particularly well on her rendition of "Lover Man," where the singer manages to breathe new life into the chestnut. Ditto for "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and "Lover Come Back to Me," which show Gambarini's ease with bop and scat. A crack combo backs the artist on this set, making EASY TO LOVE a satisfying vocal jazz experience front to back.
