Review

Magnet (p.112) - "[T]he oompah anthems pour forth from the quintet at a velocity that'd put John Philip Sousa to shame....A surprisingly mature effort from a band eager to prove its long-term mettle."

Title Note

Initial pressings of this disc included a limited edition enhanced CD, with exclusive concert footage, a Tommie Sunshine remix of "Tony The Beat", and music video.

The Sounds (Rock): Maja Ivarsson (vocals); Felix Manuel Rodriguez (guitar); Jesper Anderberg (keyboards); Johan Bengtsson (bass instrument); Fredrik Nilsson (drums).

Recording information: Stratosphere, New York, New York; Amioki Studios, Malm”, Sweden (2005).

Swedish alternative pop band the Sounds blend punk energy and 1980s-vintage keyboard sounds on their attractively packaged debut album. "Song with a Mission" is an energized dose of 21st-century rock & roll cheerleading, while "Queen of Apology" adds a little Scandinavian edge to its Avril Lavigne-inspired production, and on "Night After Night" the band shows it can put across an aching ballad with the best of them.
