Product note

Psychic TV: Alex Fergusson (vocals, guitar, bells, tambourine); Genesis P-Orridge (vocals, violin, bass, synthesizer, drums, Tibetan thigh bone, Tibetan singing bell); Peter Christopherson (vocals, organ, synthesizer, bells); Geff Rushton (vibraphone, bass, Tibetan thigh bone, Tibetan singing bell); Paula P-Orridge (vibraphone, drums, percussion).
Additional personnel: Mark Harris (vocals, recorder); Rob Scales, Anthony Scales, Jeremy Birchill (vocals); Monte Cazazza (spoken vocals); Jessica Ilbert, Chris Redgate (oboe, cor anglais); Bill Stokes, Andy Calard (trumpet); Dave Powel (tuba); Steve (Hammond organ); Andrew Poppy (synthesizer); Simon Limbrick (marimba, snare, temple blocks); David Tibet 93 (Tibetan thigh bone, Tibetan singing bell, Tibetan singing bowl); Micky (background vocals).
Psychic TV's second album, 1983's DREAMS LESS SWEET, is one of the oddest and most varied avant-rock albums of the 1980s. Large parts of the record are devoted to lengthy musical soundscapes, which employ elements of tribal music, film soundtracks, and pulsing electronics. Industrial weirdo Monte Cazazza and minimalist composer Andrew Poppy both lend their very different talents to these pieces, and the surprise here is how well elements so different can co-exist.
Elsewhere, Psychic TV masterminds Genesis P. Orridge, Peter Christopherson (both ex-Throbbing Gristle), and Alex Ferguson (ex-Alternative TV) essay a sort of cheerfully demented take on commercial chart pop. "Hymn 23" and "White Nights" don't sound much different to the sorts of things labelmates Soft Cell were climbing the UK charts with at the time. Probably the best starting point for the Psychic TV neophyte, DREAMS LESS SWEET includes the entirety of a limited edition bonus EP released with initial copies of the album.
