DREAM WITH DEAN/EVERYBODY LOVES SOMEBODY is a curious twofer pairing two albums that were actually released on the same day in 1964. The former is an intimate, late-night affair recorded with a small combo and spare arrangements. The latter is a collection of B-sides and tracks from previous albums put together to exploit Martin's 1964 hit single "Everybody Loves Somebody." A version of "Everybody Loves Somebody" appears on DREAM WITH DEAN as well, though with a radically different arrangement.
Aside from the coincidences and confusion, the albums deserve more than a passing listen. DREAM WITH DEAN is a tasteful, small-scale session that beautifully highlights Martin's talents as a singer, and EVERYBODY LOVES SOMEBODY contains the "rock & roll" version of the same-named hit single. Altogether, it is an odd, yet enjoyable package.
