This pairing of the grand old men of Norteno, Flaco Jimenez and Freddy Fender, is so obvious that it's surprising that DOS AMIGOS marks the first time they've recorded together. Unadulterated by synthesizers or flashy production techniques, this classy set swings effortlessly from ballads like "Amor de los Dos" to the classic two-step of "Te Quiero Por Que Te Quiero", and the two master musicians' voices blend like they've been performing together for years. Jimenez' accordion playing is still one of the wonders of Mexican music, while Fender's world-weary vocals remain undiminished by age or infirmity.
