THE DOO WOP BOX set contains 101 tracks featuring doo wop acts from the 1940s to the 1980s. It includes liner notes by Bob Hyde, Donn Fileti, and Billy Vera.

For fans of this urban folk music, there are no limits to what they'll do, where they'll go or what they'll spend to score a classic single or a long out-of-print LP. And with the release of the 4-CD THE DOO WOP BOX, the anthologists at Rhino have exceeded their own daunting standards. This definitive collection glorifies this classic art form and re-connects it to both its roots in gospel and its antecedents in R&B, soul, funk and jazz. But as the annotators demonstrate on these four brilliantly sequenced volumes, the evolution of doo wop--vocal group music--is synonymous with the birth of R&B itself, and parallels the rise of rock and roll teen culture.
