Paste (magazine) (p.64) - "DON'T DO ANYTHING sounds humble and homemade. Instead of meticulous chamber pieces, these selections are arranged like shoebox dioramas. It's about tiny details..."
Mixing the confessional, minimalist singer-songwriter pop of A BOOT AND A SHOE with the more eclectic and rock-oriented sound of vintage 1990s albums like MARTINIS AND BIKINIS and OMNIPOP, DON'T DO ANYTHING successfully melds these two characteristic sounds of the accomplished singer-songwriter Sam Phillips. Highlights include the unexpectedly rocking title track, "Another Song" (based on a melody Phillips used in episodes of the TV series GILMORE GIRLS, for which she was the music supervisor), and Phillips's own version of her song "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us," which had been one of the highlights of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss's 2007 collaboration, RISING SANDS.
