The Donna Jean referred to here is one Donna Godchaux, who achieved infamy as the only female ever to become an official member of the Grateful Dead. The "Tricksters," of course, are the Zen Tricksters, the band on the jam circuit that, more than any other, captures the shambolic boogie and quixotic spirit of the aforementioned legendary noodlers.
DONNA JEAN & THE TRICKSTERS will surpass all expectations. This is not a warmed-over Dead cash-in, but a match made in Deadhead heaven. Godchaux and the Tricksters hit it off like a house on fire and write a freewheeling batch of songs performed with passion and integrity that recall both the prime of Little Feat and the Dead in the mid `70s. More so than any GD recording she appeared on, Godchaux displays the soul chops that landed her a back-up singing gig at Muscle Shoals in the late `60s.
