Austrian metallers Hollenthon's grandiose tone was struck immediately on their debut album, DOMUS MUNDI. Combining the scouring harshness of black metal with symphonic strings and touches of Celtic folk, Hollenthon crafted an album that sounds like a soundtrack in search of a movie. Opener "Enrapture-Hinc Illae Lacrimae" welds stabbing, dramatic strings and choral voices to a scaffold of powerful drums, and "Homage-Magni Nominis Umbra" follows with vaguely Eastern sounds. The lunacy reaches a fever pitch on the folk-inflected "Premonition-Lex Talionis," which could easily be music made by an encampment of Orcs.
