Review

Alternative Press (12/95, pp.77-78) - "...DOG DAYS is the best record Uncle Tupelo never made....It's a solid, softly rockin' effort, delivered by this trio with simultaneous passion and professionalism....a better-than-decent listen....There's nothing here you've never heard before, but plenty you'll likely want to listen to again..."

Title Note

Blue Mountain: Cary Hudson (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, slide guitar, mandolin, harmonica); Laurie Stirratt (bass, background vocals); Frank Coutch (drums).

Additional personnel: Eric Ambel (acoustic & electric guitars, shaker).

Recorded at The Studio, Springfield, Missouri.

All songs written by Blue Mountain, except "Let's Go Running" (Jim Miizo), "Special Rider Blues" (Skip James) and "Epitaph" (traditional).

In the annals of alt-country, Blue Mountain is often overlooked, but the Mississippi-based band's 1995 album, DOG DAYS, is a minor classic of the genre. Reprising a number of tunes from the preceding self-titled, self-released album, it features a mixture of acoustic picking, electric Neil Young-like crunch, and the plaintive, down-home harmonies of husband and wife Cary Hudson and Laurie Stirratt.
