The DJ KICKS series of mixes was inaugurated by the K7 electronica label in 1995, when techno went mainstream and moved beyond dance clubs and into living rooms. By 1999, techno stars like Carl Craig and Kruder & Dorfmeister had contributed to the series, and it was time for Washington DC duo Thievery Corporation to craft their own DJ KICKS mix. One of the finest offerings of the DJ KICKS series, this set maintains a rather low-key mood throughout, in keeping with Thievery Corporation's usual modus operandi. Nevertheless, the sounds on offer are wide-ranging, including everything from the old-school lounge sounds of Les Baxter to the dub stylings of Rockers Hi-Fi and the warm, glowing acid-jazz sounds of Jazzanova, all intermixed with the Corporation's own distinctive downtempo cuts.
