Review

Uncut (p.107) - 3 stars out of 5 - "DISTORTION is a surprisingly fierce record which eschews super producers and guests for a steroid-injected take on his former act's heavy drum loops."
CMJ (No. 934, p.7) - "Lean and old school, this is the classic Run-DMC sound condensed...and shot out of a cannon...."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.60) - Ranked #4 in Mojo's "Top Ten Urban Albums Of 2005."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.98) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[T]his superb first solo album is both glorious throwback to more innocent times and a defiant statement of artistic vitality."

Title Note

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.

Personnel: Rev Run (rap vocals).

Recording information: Whiteboys Noize Studio, Bayonne, New Jersey.

After the 2002 murder of Jam Master Jay, New York City hip-hop pioneers Run-DMC respectfully called it a day. In 2005, Joe "Run" Simmons (now a reverend with a large family) took the name "Rev Run," and unveiled his first solo album, DISTORTION, on his brother Russell Simmons's RSMG label. This brief yet potent 10-track collection (which clocks in at under 23 minutes) is filled with Run's assured rapping, old-school beats, and deft sample-heavy production that nods to (or, in some cases, directly references) Run-DMC's trademark style, making it ideal for fans of vintage hip-hop. The record's release also coincides with the revered rapper's own reality-TV show, RUN'S HOUSE.
