On DISSOLVER, the mysterious entity known as Iran has come out of hiding. Their first record in nearly six years, it's a far more transparent, accessible affair than either 2000's IRAN or 2003's THE MOON BOYS, which were both heavily manipulated and bathed in tape hiss. The pop-like melodies were all but hidden; now, a fleshed-out production job has pushed them to the fore. The quartet of singer/multi-instrumentalist Aaron Aites as well as Peter Hoffman, Aaron Romanello, and Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio) do nothing more nor less here than submit 10 excellent, crystalline pop songs, all still accessorized with an experimental edge.
