The third full-length from punk-pop quartet the Starting Line hones the group's fizzy mixture of pop hooks, emo expressiveness, and chugging rock assault. Lead-off tracks "Direction" and "21" are fine examples of TSL's energetic, melody-heavy blast. Produced by Grammy-nominated studio ace Howard Benson, DIRECTION gleams like the major-label release it is, but maintains plenty of the group's youthful, alternative, ear-snagging vigor. This is a record for summer: heavy and hard enough to rock out to, but light and bright enough to invite a singalong.
