The Ukrainians are to Ukrainian music as the Pogues are to Irish music, in that they're (mostly) Brits with an ancestry directly related to their respective style, who then fuse those traditional sounds in a modern rock idiom. Wedding Present guitarist Peter Solowka was a founding member, and although he's moved on, the combination of the propulsive indie-jangle he was known for in that band with traditional Ukrainian music gives some indication of what this group is still up to. Finally, "Diaspora" and other songs try to capture the unmoored distress of those many Ukrainians who live in self-imposed exile for economic or political reasons.
