Viva la vida, indeed...
by Eddie C. - June 16, 2008
Viva la vida is an interesting title for a Cold Play album, specially one with
such warm sounds. I received this album as a present for fathers day, as soon as
I listened to the first notes on the first tune I realized that this album was
going to be easy listening (specially because I work with harder rock bands for
a living), so I took the trip and heres my impressions:

Its interesting to
find that this time Chris Martin decided to go at least half scale down in his
singing, meaning that you wont listen to any high sweet vocals or stuff, thus
taking Cold Play into a new listening experience... good news is you wont need
to familiarize or get used to Martins "new voice", because it comes naturally
within the music.

One interesting thing about this production is the ability
to highlight vocals and lead guitar and make anything else a texture that works
as an excellent backdrop for Martin and Buckland. Let me say that the rest of
the band has such a great credit for this, oh! and the producer too!

My point
of view is that tracks 5 and 8 are quite excellent, and the rest of the album
doesnt fall behind that much... indeed this is an excellent album since the
intro song on track 1. Id recommend you to buy it right away and enjoy it very
much!

On the technical side, everythings so clean but the his in the guitar
are a bit loud, forcing you to take the volume a little down... this is not an
album for playing loud, you know... everythings so neat that you will get a much
better appreciation without having to turn the volume up. Good speakers
recommended.

Just to finish this review Id like to add that the title is
exciting, as Im from Mexico and in spanish Viva la vida could mean Horray for
life! or something like that... its a real celebration you shouldnt miss.
Thanks for reading!
