Title Note

By the time of 1976's DEEP CUTS, the Strawbs' roots in the U.K. folk scene had been supplanted by a slick soft-rock sound in the manner of 10cc or Fleetwood Mac, showcased by the single "Turn Me Round."

Japanese remaster in an LP-replica sleeve features an extra song.

Strawbs: Dave Lambert (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Chas Cronk (vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar); David Cousins (vocals, acoustic guitar); Rod Coombes (vocals, drums, percussion).

Recording information: The Manor, Kidlington, Oxford.

Strawbs began in late-'60s England as sort of a less-whimsical Incredible String Band, but the atmospheric folk-rockers mutated into full-blown prog rock by the early '70s (with help from Rick Wakeman). In the final phase of their initial career, 1976's DEEP CUTS finds them moving further towards the more straightforward, commercial direction they'd begun with the preceding NOMADNESS. This cleaned-up approach is exemplified by the glossy production of the midtempo pop tune "I Only Want My Love to Grow in You," which earned the band healthy radio play.
