Noise Unit: Bill Leeb, Rhys Fulber.

Noise Unit is yet another name for the ultra-prolific team of Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber. This partnership, perhaps the hardest working duo in cyber-rock, is more notoriously known as Front Line Assembly but also operates as Synaethesia, Delerium, Intermix, and Will. Previous NU recordings partook generously of the uglier side of industrial dance--terrorist vocals and all. But DECODER finds the pair soldering the hardware of industrial music's innards onto the more translucent chassis of contemporary techno.

DECODER is a record made in sequencer heaven. And although the sounds tread the familiar, they often yield stunning results when so intelligently applied--particularly on "Protector" and the interspatial funk of "Biosphere." When experiencing DECODER, one must pay penance to the bass synth gods that dwell in the church of Leeb and Fulber.
