The Dickies Artist Snapshot:

A steady diet of junky pop culture and rock & roll fueled the genesis of The Dickies, one of Los Angeles's first and funniest punk bands. Whether playing in Hollywood or as one of the first American punk bands on network TV, they blazed a trail for the booming punk rock population to come. Their speeded-up goofball covers and infectiously hummable originals mixed bright radio harmonies and buzz-saw grit in a way no act since the Ramones had. Still together since 1977, the 30-year veterans continue to play live, complete with hand puppets and stage props.

Title Note

Recording information: 1979.

Released in 1979, the second album by Los Angeles punks the Dickies turns up the silliness that permeated their debut, but also brings in a stronger set of tunes catchy enough to match the enjoyably goofy lyrics. There's also only one cover version this time, a deliberately painful disemboweling of the Moody Blues' uber-pretentious "Nights In White Satin." Highlights include "Fan Mail" and the giddy horror-movie parody "Attack of the Mole Men." The 2000 CD edition adds two single-only bonus tracks, "Gigantor" and "Bowling With Bedrock Barney."
