Product note

Personnel includes: David Johansen (vocals); Johnny Thunders (guitar).
Recorded live at the Bottom Line, New York, New York on July 21, 1978.
Before his stylistic diversions as tuxedoed nightclub crooner Buster Poindexter and leader of the folky David Johansen and the Harry Smiths, David Johansen consistently delivered a special brand of trashy rock & roll fun that worked best on stage. LIVE is a good example.
Like the earlier LIVE IT UP, the 18 tracks on LIVE are a giddy mix of solo Johansen tracks ("Funky but Chic," "Frenchette," "Babylon"), a soca-styled number that sounds like a warm-up for the Buster Poindexter days, and New York Dolls classics. "Personality Crisis" gets interrupted for a brief version of "It's a Heartache" and "Looking for a Kiss." LIVE also offers typically rowdy covers of such rock & roll gems as "Build Me Up Buttercup" and "Reach Out (I'll Be There)," and an intense reading of Sandie Shaw's "Girl Don't Come."
