Review

Spin (7/03, p.110) - "...Like a hilarious Rage Against the Machine, they totally reflect our whacked-out times..." - Grade: B+

Title Note

Molotov: Tito Fuentes (vocals, guitar); Mickey Huido Huidobro. Pacp Ayala (vocals, bass); Randy "El Gringo Loco" Ebright (vocals, drums).

Additional personnel: Gustavo Santaolalla (vocals, tubos, tiple); Anibal Kerpel (Hammond B-3 organ, Mini Moog synthesizer).

DANCE AND DENSE DENSO was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.

All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.

On its fourth album, Mexican rap-rock group Molotov hones its eclectic sound ever further. Having crossed over to remarkable success in America and Europe in the late 1990s, the band sticks to its guns on DANCE AND DENSE DENSO, singing and rapping mostly in Spanish and churning out razor-sharp guitar riffs, fierce bass lines, and tight rhythms. The opening title track is a hard-charging rocker, while the innuendo-laced "Changuich a la Chicona" (sic) is Molotov's tongue-in-cheek take on Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back." Elsewhere, the stereotype-busting "Frijolero" features traditional Mexican accompaniment, and the funky "I'm the One" is the rare all-English tune. Always avoiding stagnation, Molotov continues to move forward on DANCE AND DENSE DENSO, revealing a wide sonic range and truly commendable ambition.
