Entertainment Weekly (3/27/92, p.76) - "..a long-overdue collection...all the hits are here.." - Rating: A-
Vibe (12/99, p.157) - Included in Vibe's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century

Title Note

Chic: Nile Rodgers (vocals, guitar); Bernard Edwards (vocals, bass); Norma Jean, Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin (vocals); Tony Thompson (drums).

Additional personnel: Luther Vandross, Robin Clark, Diva Grey (vocals).

Recorded at Electric Ladyland Studios and The Power Station, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Jean-Charles Costa.

Digitally remastered by Howie Weinberg (August 1991, Masterdisk, New York, New York).

This is part of the Atlantic & ATCO Remasters Series.

Chic's greatest hits album holds up a lot better than most artifacts of the disco era, a fact that can be attributed, largely, to splendid musicianship; the instrumental core of the group--guitarist Nile Rogers, bassist Bernard Edwards, and drummer Tony Thompson--was as telepathically tight as predecessors like Booker T. and the MGs and perhaps even a bit more inventive. As a result, the group's seamless combination of irresistible rhythmic grooves and catchy pop hooks--heard here to best advantage on such period anthems as "Le Freak" and (especially) "Good Times"--still sounds fresh.
