Review

"Brine...tweaks many of THE DA VINCI CODE's conceits to preposterous effect....Readers will laugh at Brine's revelations but may not easily be able to dismiss them."

First line

Jacques Sauna-Lurker lay dead in the main hallway of National Art Gallery of Fine Paintings, in the heart of London, a British city, the capital of Britain, with a population density of approximately 10,500 per square mile and a total population of approximately seven million people, unless by 'London' you include the Greater London Area, which has a population of about twenty million people and a slightly lower population density per square mile.

Publisher's note

A humorous parody of the best-selling novel reveals all about the secret mysteries of the cod, as explained in the enigmatic works of Renaissance genius Leonardo Da Vinci.

Annotation

Written by literature professor and science fiction author Adam Roberts under the pen name of "Don Brine," this is a gloriously savage and wacky send-up of the repetitious, digressive prose style; ridiculous plot convolutions; and continuity errors representative of Dan Brown's blockbuster bestseller THE DA VINCI CODE and other academic/historical thrillers of that ilk. Curator Jacques Sauna-Lurker of London's National Gallery is discovered dead, a cod stuffed down his throat. Fingerprints on the fish scales pin the murder on Anagrammatology Professor Robert Donglan, who has a reputation as one of the world's greatest codebreakers but is in fact a dimwitted slacker. Donglan, the lovely Sophie Nudivue, and the bizarrely behaving Sir Herbert Teabag attempt to find the true murderer of Sauna-Lurker, who had apparently located an elusive work of art painted by Leonardo's forgotten (and considerably more brilliant) twin sister, Eda da Vinci, which contains clues to an ancient, powerful, and incredibly fishy conspiracy.
