Album Description

Milan's Cuban Revolucion Jazz is a double-disc set that attempts to trace a definitive history of Cuban jazz. It might not fulfill its goals completely, but it comes remarkably close to being definitive. Many of the major players in the genre are here -- Irakere, Mario Bauza, Chucho Valdes, Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ramon Valle, Orlando Valle, Frank Emilio Flynn -- often represented with songs that are not only representative, but excellent. Experts will notice that there are some worthy artists and music missing, but this works very well as an introduction for curious listeners. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
