With their second album, Some Girls (the female trio consisting of Juliana Hatfield, former Mysteries of Life and Blake Babies member Freda Love, and Heidi Gluck of the Pieces) deliver 14 tracks aching with hopeful melancholy. Compared to 2003's FEEL IT, CRUSHING LOVE is musically varied and more complex while at the same time emotionally raw, pairing thoughtful, often sad lyrics with a fun, upbeat sound. Still maintaining a casual feel and a nice sense of humor, the album's overall sound is marked by the messy guitar squalls of Hatfield's contemporaneous solo work.
