Review

CMJ (4/17/00, p.20) - "...A lush work....thoughtful rock'n'roll....The burly riffs will delight the longhairs, nonetheless."

Product note

Sentenced: Ville Laihiala (vocals); Miika Tenkula, Sami Lopakka (guitar); Sami Kukkohovi (bass); Vesa Ranta (drums).
Additional personnel: Kari Hautalampi (piano).
Recorded in September 1999.
Finnish depressives Sentenced continue further down the road to pop acceptance with their sixth album, the dark, glossy CRIMSON. Touches of moody Seattle acts like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden bleed further into the sturdy metal framework that's been in place for years, but those influences only add color to the murky fog of previous work. In fact, CRIMSON may well be the band's most sonically diverse album yet. Hazy tremolo colors "The River," and "Killing Me Killing You" begins as a straight piano power ballad before erupting into furious riffs. Crimson finds Sentenced both gloomier and lovelier than ever.
