Title Note

Composer: Mark Isham.

One of the highest-profile film composers in the business, Mark Isham has built an impressive, lengthy resume that shows off his range, taste, and remarkable talent with orchestrations and arrangements. His soundtrack to the 2005 film CRASH is no exception. Isham describes his creation as a "bedroom recording," and the moody, textured music does, in fact, have the introspection and intimacy of something composed in a small, artistically charged space.

Sequencers and synthesizers dominate here, giving rise to pieces that veer from the delicately ambient to pulsing pattern music. The metronomic rhythms of "Siren," for example, help create tension as much as "A Really Good Cloak"-- the lilting, atmospheric track that follows--relieves it. Several tracks--"...Safe Now;" "Saint Christopher"--employ a female voice that unfurls beautifully operatic, Middle Eastern-flavored vocals, creating a spooky, human tapestry that recalls, at times, Peter Gabriel's PASSION. With its mixture of ethereal timbres and taut rhythm-scapes, CRASH is a compelling listen from beginning to end, and weighs in as another fine addition to Isham's discography
