In the 1960's, many performers took valued folk sounds, added electricity and some rock-&-roll audacity, and wrought new forms from the old. The Byrds and Fairport Convention combined rock with folk from their respective homelands, just as Feufollet from Lafayette, Louisiana now infuse Cajun music with youthful rock-&-roll style. They sing in Cajun French, mix traditional tunes with originals, and enrich their Cajun guitar/fiddle/accordion palette with steel guitar, electric piano, horns, and drums. COW ISLAND HOP is deep-bayou Cajun culture conveyed not with a musicologist's seriousness but with a good beat.
