Unreleased until 2007, this 1966 live album reflects Motown label boss Berry Gordy's attempt to break his artists into the chic, sophisticated territory of such performers as Bobby Darin and Sammy Davis Jr. Performing at New York's temple of ring-a-ding-ding, Marvin Gaye expertly weaves his way through a classy set of Motown hits, including his own "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "Ain't That Peculiar," and standards such as "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "This Could Be the Start of Something Big," backed by slick, vintage big band arrangements.
