Though his career has largely shadowed his more famous guitar playing twin brother, Nels, drummer Alex Cline has been steadfastly making his mark in avant-jazz circles since the early `80s. CONTINUATION, Cline's eighth outing as a leader, continues the percussionist's sprawling but sure-footed explorations into hard-swung grooves, rapturous soloing, and atmospheric soundscapes. A flawlessly recorded session date featuring jazz heavyweights Myra Melford on piano, Jeff Gauthier on violin, Peggy Lee on cello, and Scott Walton on bass, CONTINUATION offers an evocative set of mood pieces flecked with daubs of impressionistic tone color, courtesy of Mr. Cline's versatile and ever extensible talent for non-traditional timekeeping.
