Title Note

Mexico's Ana Gabriel belongs to the select group of those few Latin female singers who can also compose their own material. Gabriel excels in both the Latin pop and traditional Mexican genres, but this 1997 release would make you believe that her heart belongs to the world of ranchera. Nine out of the 12 songs here were written by Gabriel herself, and they follow a tradition of lyrics about heartbreak and abandonment already established by composers like Jose Alfredo Jimenez.

Indeed, Gabriel covers one of Jimenez's songs with verve. The darkly toned "Me Equivoque Contigo" finds the singer meeting the wrong man at a church, initially fooled by his innocent expression and polite manners. But CON UN MISMO CORAZON saves the best for last. Also written by Gabriel, the title track finds the diva dueting with the thunderous-voiced Vicente Fernandez. Her delightfully raspy voice has never found a better companion.
