George Gershwin: Joseph S. Szurly, Brian Drutman.
Recording information: 1926 - 1935.
Part of a Decca Records series focusing on Broadway songwriters that also includes Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and Richard Rodgers (with each of his partners), COMPOSERS ON BROADWAY features classic recordings of George and Ira Gershwin standards as performed by Georgia Brown ("Funny Face"), Carol Burnett ("Lorelai"), Anne Brown ("Summertime"), Al Jolson ("Swanee"), Ethel Merman ("I Got Rhythm," "Girl Crazy"), and Gertrude Lawrence ("Someone To Watch Over Me"). The 10-track set also includes two of Gershwin's overtures as performed by Arthur Fiedler's Boston Pops. There is plenty of Gershwin out there, but this 2006 collection isn't a bad place to start.
