Title Note

Rufio: Jon Berry, Clark Domae, Mike Jimenez.

Recording information: The Green Room, Los Angeles, CA.

For Rufio's third full-length album, the Southern California punk-pop band takes its classic-metal leanings further, resulting in a catchy record that often sounds like a collaboration between Blink 182 and Iron Maiden. "Bitter Season," for example, features intricate guitar riffs that could have been inspired by the latter band's "Aces High," and the record's instrumental interludes, including the delicate "Never Learn" and the swirling, bass-heavy "On Our Own," seem pulled straight from a vintage thrash-metal album. Of course, Rufio's emo elements are still in place--the vocals on THE COMFORT OF HOME are typically yearning and angst-ridden, and the lyrics address issues both personal ("Drowning") and global ("Walk Don't Run"). Although Rufio hasn't shaken its So-Cal punk-pop tag, the group goes far beyond that label on this fierce, genre-melding disc.
