Twisted Sister was caught off guard with the success of the band's multi-platinum 1984 album, STAY HUNGRY, which spawned a pair of popular MTV videos, "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock." After the band toured for the better part of a year, Twisted Sister went right back in the studio to work on its fourth full-length album, COME OUT AND PLAY, released in 1985. Instead of returning to the hard-hitting metal of its first two albums, the quintet continued in the more commercial direction of its last release.

COME OUT AND PLAY includes a number of stylistic diversions, including a lighthearted cover of the '50s standard "Leader of the Pack," and a song in which several non-heavy metal stars (Billy Joel, Brian Setzer, among others) are featured, "Be Chrool to Your Scuel." There are also songs that are reminiscent of the band's heavy metal past, like the title track and "Kill Or Be Killed." Unfortunately, this album ultimately failed to build upon the success of its predecessor and Twisted Sister would break up after just one more album.
