Released shortly after the death of the pioneering Mexican-American country musician, Freddy Fender's CLASSICS is a solid overview of the south Texas singer-songwriter's career. Possessing a fine pure-country voice and often-underrated guitar skills, Fender was both a country icon and the entry point for many country listeners into Tex-Mex and other Latin music styles. Starting with his original 1950s version of his signature song "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights," CLASSICS continues with 28 of Fender's most beloved songs, including the breakthrough ballad "Before the Next Teardrop Falls," as well as several of his Spanish-language hits.
