This eclectic West Coast indie-rap collective was founded when early-1990s Oakland duo Mystik Journeymen (made up of Sunspot Jonz and Luckiam.PSC) along with affiliated lyricist/beatmaker the Grouch came together with relocated former members of the L.A. underground trio 3 Melancholy Gypsies, Murs, Scarub, and Eligh. As their ranks swelled to include Fresno native Aesop, Japanese rapper Arata, and MC/producer Bicasso, the Legends came to be defined by a shared independent spirit--both in their signature next-level sound and their D.I.Y. approach to recording. The group has run a handful of different imprints over the years, including Outhouse Records, Revenge Entertainment, and Legendary Music. Including individual artists, side collaborations, and group releases, the Living Legends have over 50 LPs to their credit.
